Lifeguards ensure the safety of all visitors and staff. Individuals serving in this position are responsible for enforcing all rules and regulations of the facility as well as responding to all emergency situations that may arise in the aquatic environment including pools, slides, lazy river and surf simulator. JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Individuals serving in this position are responsible for enforcing all rules and regulations of the facility as well as responding to all emergency situations that may arise in the aquatic environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure the safety of patrons to the pools by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations.
2. Supervision of all facility areas. Enforces facility policies and procedures.
3. Participate in regular internal and external audits as deemed necessary by management.
4. Provide a consistent scanning pattern while actively lifeguarding, adhering to the 30 second industry standard.
5. Consistently maintain a professional demeanor while on the clock.
6. Responding quickly to all emergency situations and administering first aid when necessary.
7. Communicating with other Lifeguards and facility staff about the need for additional assistance or equipment in an emergency.
8. Be knowledgeable and prepared for minor to severe emergency situations that could arise.
9. Report suspicious activities to supervisors.
10. Enforcing rules and regulations of the facility. Educating and informing patrons of the rules and regulations of the pool as necessary.
11. Complete accurate reports related to operations and submit them to management in a timely manner.
12. Provide a safe, clean, and organized environment for patrons. Such as daily cleaning checklists and duties as assigned.
13. Attend 4 hours of Inservice training (monthly) and meetings as scheduled.
14. In case of an emergency, notify the appropriate agency as dictated by the emergency.
15. Communicate effectively with patrons, supervisors, and co-workers.
16. Follows protocols for opening and closing of the facility.
17. Perform other related duties as requested or assigned by the Manager of Aquatics or Recreation Programmer -Aquatics.
18. Prepares daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and special reports as required and/or requested.
The above duties and responsibilities include those tasks, physical and mental requirements, visual requirements, unique physical surroundings and mental/cognitive abilities required to perform the essential elements of the position.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education and Special License(s)/Certifications – Must be 16 years of age or older. All candidates must possess the certifications below, or have the ability to obtain them before beginning employment. If not already obtained certification will be provided at no cost to employees once hired.
a) Successful completion of StarGuard Lifeguard Certification and other related training as necessary.
b) CPR and First Aid certifications
c) Successful completion of a pre-employment in-water practical skills test.
2. Experience – Prior experience in the area of aquatics is preferred, but not required as training will be provided if hired.
3. Skills – Skill in effective verbal and written communication; skill in the effective administration of City and Department policies and procedures. Maintain positive relationships with members and patrons.
4. Mental Requirements – Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment. Communicate effectively with patrons. Ability to respond and act in an emergency situation.
5. Physical Requirements – Must be able to stand for prolonged periods; must be able to walk frequently; must be able to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and use general office equipment. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Basic swimming ability including treading water for a period of time is required. Most work is performed in various aquatic, recreational, or maintenance settings where noise levels are frequently moderate to loud, and occasionally extremely loud.
